The home of exceptional students and eminent academics, Boitekanelo College has
over the years positioned itself as a leading contributor to regional knowledge
on health education and generating high level thinkers within the health sector.
The College offers a real world training experience that prepares students for a
future in the health sector across the region. The College opened its doors for
the first batch of students in May 2007 at the time operating as Boitekanelo Training
Institute (BTI).
In 2008 Botswana Qualifications Authority (BQA) accredited the then BTI, the Institution
would later change its name to Boitekanelo College in 2011 as it began to upgrade
courses from certificate to diploma and degree levels. It is fully recognized by
Ministry of Education and Skills Development and Ministry of Health. Human Resource
Development Council (HRDC) registered the College in December 2010 and it is recognized
as a tertiary education provider. Boitekanelo College is also registered for consultancy
services in health care. It currently operates in two Campuses: Tlokweng and Mogoditshane.
The College has over time developed strong links with the industry and work closely
with some of the leading referral hospitals in Botswana. The College's location
in Gaborone, one of the exciting cities in the region certainly makes it a unique
place of study. The peace and tranquil of the city makes it conducive to enrol with
Boitekanelo College.
Boitekanelo College's tradition of excellence in clinical education is perpetuated
not only through the diversity of the patient populations that medical students
encounter but also through their early exposure to clinical care. Boitekanelo College's
curriculum includes systems based/multidisciplinary instruction in the basic sciences
and early introduction to clinical / ambulatory care.
Teaching methods such as lectures with labs, small group instruction, and self-directed
learning challenge students to learn core science in the context of patient problems
drawn from the bedside and the clinic through the state of the art simulation laboratory.
